History

The 3Delight Team was formed in the late 1990s as a spin off from Digits 'n Art Software: a research and development company in the field of 3D modeling and animation software operating as a subsidiary of TAARNA Studios. They were created and lead by Pierre Lachapelle. Since 1985, when Lachapelle released the internationally acclaimed film Tony De Peltrie, his pioneering work has led to significant breakthroughs in the world of computer animation. Some of his many accomplishments include the first computer-animated crowd; hair; and clothing; as well as the development of a 3D paint. His latest achievement is the IMAX film Adventures in Animation 3D which was released in 2005.

The 3Delight Team, now operating under DnA Research, develops rendering solutions based on the RenderMan standard and practice for the demanding environment of the CG film production pipeline. Our experience with RenderMan technologies goes back to its creation in the early 1990s. And in order to promote the RenderMan standard, for ten years now, we have been providing students, independent artists and small studios a single free license of 3Delight, our RenderMan-compliant rendering software.
