'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Except that I wasn't aware that I was running more than one free license concurrently. Could anyone give me some advice on how to track down this extra phantom license?
I'm running 3Delight9.0.84 on Snow Leopard. I get this error when rendering one of the example ribs from the command line.
Thanks,
Simon

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Well I fixed it myself by rolling back all the shell/.login config files modified by the 3delight installer.

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Hello,
I have the same error “ 3DL ERROR R5050: Cannot run more than one 3Delight free license at once †while I am absolutely sure I am running only one instance. I searched for the .login file you suggested to look at, but could not find one. What's that file please ?
I have no idea why 3Delight think I am running multiple instance. I was to try it from the command line, and I surely invoke only one instance.

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
I've tried again multiple and multiple time, it's always the same.
In Ubuntu 10.10. The only difference with what stated in the Installation.txt, is that I used <<source " /home/yannick/apps/3delight-9.0.84/.3delight_bash">> instead of <<source "/home/yannick/apps/3delight-9.0.84/.3delight_csh">>, because my shell is Bash, not CSH, and I added this sourcing statement in .bashrc instead of in .login, because Bash does not load the .login file. I could not do another way, because of the shell is Bash for me.
I checked the running processes list, it shows no renderdl, and the shaderdl command is running fine, only renderdl fails. I sware I run only one instance. I'm out of resource, no more idea, can't figure at all why it insist on believing I am running multiple instance.

It's probably the message which is misleading... if the check fails for some other reason (besides finding another instance), it may also print that message.

So which check ? What does it check for beside of this one ?
Alternatively, is there a way to get an older version ? (may be there is a less buggy older version, as it seems it use to work in the past, some people told me).

I can just suggest, may be you have some software running
on your system, that uses port 7419 also?

Should I shut down all of the network to try 3Delight ? (multiple messages about failure to run the test version of 3Delight, suggest matters about networking)
Thanks for the reply
-- EDIT -- I've just noticed, Olivier, who replied above, is part of the developer team. So may be he is confident about some stuff and that's really something else and the message is really misleading. But then, still the same question: which check fails ?
@Oliver: should I post some platform technical details ?

I wasn't talking about another check but another reason for the check to fail. There's not much information that can help figure that out... diagnosis needs to be added to 3Delight.

We've added an error code with more information (for us) and done a few fixes since then. They'll be part of the next round of free packages.

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Sorry to bring this thread up again, and I don't want to hi-jack it, but I was just wondering if this is still a current issue for anyone or not?
I have been running 9.0.84 just fine on a mac laptop with snow leopard, but just tried installing it on my linux box with Fedora and am getting this same issue.
Looking at the dates for when this thread started, I was just wondering if there had been any updates or notices as to possible solutions?
Thanks!

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Hey guys,
I know this is a little quick to be jumping on this seeing as v10 was just released.... but just wanted to note that I am still having this same licensing issue with the new release as well (v10.0.4 on Fedora 15-64)
Code:
[brianm@brianm-HP ~]$ which renderdl ~/software/3delight-10.0.4/Linux-x86_64/bin/renderdl [brianm@brianm-HP ~]$ renderdl -t 2 -test 3DL ERROR R5050: Cannot run more than one 3Delight free license at once (2)
A shot in the dark here, but... This is a dual-boot machine (win7 and fedora, same drive, multiple partitions, 3delight installed on both...), any chance the installs could somehow be conflicting? Seems like a long shot, but I am out of other ideas...
Again, sorry for jumping on this so quickly, just thought you should know... I'd be grateful for any insight anyone might have.
Thanks!
-Brian

That particular code is because 3Delight is unable to figure out a host id for your system. What does ifconfig output on your linux setup?

I edited /etc/hosts/ with my ip and machine name, and I now get a valid (a8c05f01) response from hostid. However, when I try to run the 'licutils hostid' associated with 3delight, I get still get this in return:
Code:
[brianm@brianm-HP bin]$ licutils hostid cannot get hostid for this machine
I'd be happy to start a new thread if you'd like, as don't want to hijack this thread from the OP if this isn't related.
Thanks again!

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Great, the idiots at fedora have managed to come up with yet another way to deviate from what everyone else does by naming their interfaces "em" instead of "eth". If you feel up to patching lib3delight.so, look for the string eth%d and replace it by em%1d and it should work. I can probably come up with something easier if you can't.
That doesn't explain why it doesn't work on windows however. Could you run one of the binaries in here http://www.3delight.com/shownics64.zip (for 64-bit windows) or here http://www.3delight.com/shownics.zip (for 32-bit windows) and mail the output to support@3delight.com ?

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
awesome. Thanks for the reply and suggestions. I will see about patching the lib3delight.so file and let you know if that works.
sorry, I think I may have been a little confusing in my previous post. 3Delight IS functioning correctly on the windows side of things, just not on the fedora side.
anyways, thanks again I will let you know if this works!

sorry, should have waited to post the previous reply until I tested it. Didn't realize it would be so simple.

Re: 'more than one 3Delight free license at once' error on Mac Os X
Hi olivier,
I am still having the same issue about the free license. I tried running the new 3Delight Studio Pro and it still says:
Code:
renderdl -test 3DL ERROR R5050: Cannot run more than one 3Delight free license at once (1)
I am using Linux Fedora Core 8, and when I run ifconfig I get:
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr F0:4D:A2:29:59:F4
inet addr:172.16.18.68 Bcast:172.16.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0

RX bytes:1000011068883 (931.3 GiB) TX bytes:1000011068883 (931.3 GiB)As you see my device is still called eth0 so the problem is not about it being called em. Can you think of anything? I really just want to write some shaders and test them, even with the watermark of previous 3delight versions would be ok for me.
Thanks a lot,
Jorge

Jorge, are you certain you don't have a stray license server running somewhere? Everything else looks ok... although you never really know with fedora :)

Is the company using 3Delight at all? A license server would also cause that.
