Tesselation artifacts when using displacement.

Hello! I noticed severe tesselation issues with displacement... any idea on how to get rid of these?
here is a snapshot of the problem :

Re: Tesselation artifacts when using displacement.

Did you make sure you correctly setup the displacement bound on the object (geometry approximation > Displacement > Max. Disxplacement)?

you can also attached a dicing property (from 3delight) to this object and setup an alternative camera to refine the tesselation of the object...

Can you give us access to this scene?

Hello gducatel!

I tried both of your ideas but it didn't fix the problem. Here is a scene where I got rid of everything except the grid and the texture driving the displacement :

thanks!

Re: Tesselation artifacts when using displacement.

Hi Martin,

Like I suspected, you did not setup the displacement bound correctly and this generate "cracks" when rendering the displacement (you can google this: displacement cracks renderman).
To let you know that "possible error", 3delight provided you the following warning:

# WARNING : 3Delight: R2001: object 'FloorDisplacement' (displacement 'Mental_Ray_MR_Displacement_displacement', surface 'Mental_Ray_MR_Displacement_surface') exceeded its displacement bound by 40%

If you provide me with an FTP, I can give you an updated scene...

Cheers,
