useBackground/ shadow matte?

Hi! I am trying to render a a character with fur and everything works perfect, But i cant find a way to render the shadows from the fur/or any geo separate for compositing. Is there some shader like Mayas use background or any other way to get the shadows in a separate pass?

Thanx / Joel

Re: useBackground/ shadow matte?

I think there were threads on this forum about the topic.
With 6.5.0, you may need to write your own shaders that output the shadow pass in an AOV.
Subsequent versions have the AOV already built in.

Re: useBackground/ shadow matte?

How can I achieve the effect that the useBackground Maya shader does, in 3Delight?

Thank you,
Stucky

Re: useBackground/ shadow matte?

The useBackgroung does two things that you will achieve differently with 3Delight.

If you use useBackgroung to cut a hole in your image with an object, use a "matte" attribute (found in the visibility section of a delightGeoAttribute nde).

If you use useBackground to have an image of the shadows only, use the "shadow" aov (in the Secondary Displays section of a renderPass node).

Cheers
